Tips for guests from the UK.
- Do not forget that in America, they drive on the right hand side of the road!
- When you approach a traffic light, if you want to turn right and the lights are on red, then you are allowed to turn (provided that the road is clear of course !!)
- If you see a yellow school bus, be aware that if the lights on the front/back flash amber, then the bus is coming to a halt. If the lights are flashing red, then NO cars should pass the bus (in either direction if the road is not a dual carriageway) – this is a safety precaution, which the police will stop you for.
- In the evenings, you may see traffic lights flash amber or red constantly, if this is the case, then the car which approaches with the flashing amber has right of way, but has to be careful in case somebody goes through on red, and visa-versa if the lights are red.
- I have yet to see a roundabout, however, they do have a 4 way give way, which in reality is akin to a roundabout – The rules are not biggest wins (although it may look that way), but the first to arrive, goes first.
- Whenever you come to a T-junction, always come to a complete stop before making your manoeuvre.
- Always park with the front of the car into the parking spot (do not reverse in)
- Remember to put your headlights on when it is raining.
From Orlando International Airport (mco):
Proceed to the South Exit via 417/Greenway (toll road). You will need quarters. No bills or cards accepted. Travel South on the 417/Greenway to Celebration Avenue. Follow the signs North to Highway 192. Turn left on Highway 192 and proceed to Formosa Gardens Blvd., turn left (Formosa Gardens Blvd. is located between mile markers 5 and 4 on the 192 and has a Taco Bell on the corner). Continue until you reach a four-way stop. Turn right at the four-way stop and proceed for approx. 1 mile. The main entrance to Emerald Island will be on your left. Proceed straight to the guard house and show the guard your paperwork, you will receive a car pass for your vehicle for the duration of your stay.
From Sanford Airport:
Proceed to the South Exit via 417/Greenway (toll road). You will need quarters. No bills or cards accepted. Travel South on the 417/Greenway to Celebration Avenue. Follow the signs North to Highway 192. Turn left on Highway 192 and proceed to Formosa Gardens Blvd., turn left. (Formosa Gardens Blvd. is located between mile markers 5 and 4 on the 192 and has a Taco Bell on the corner). Continue until you reach a four-way stop. Turn right at the four-way stop and proceed for approx. 1 mile. The main entrance to Emerald Island will be on your left. Proceed straight to the guard house and show the guard your paperwork, you will receive a car pass for your vehicle for the duration of your stay.
Driving From North of Orlando:
Take I-75 South until you reach the Florida Turnpike. Take the Turnpike South, towards Miami, and proceed until you reach Exit/Interstate 4. Head West on I-4 and continue until you reach Highway 192 West. (Note: you will pass all the main Disney Exits before reaching 192). Turn right on 192 and proceed to Formosa Gardens Blvd., turn left. (Formosa Gardens Blvd. is located between mile markers 5 and 4 on the 192 and has a Taco Bell on the corner). Continue until you reach a four-way stop. Turn right at the four-way stop and proceed for approx. 1 mile. The main entrance to Emerald Island will be on your left. Proceed straight to the guard house and show the guard your paperwork, you will receive a car pass for your vehicle for the duration of your stay.
Driving From South of Orlando via Florida Turnpike:
Proceed North on the Florida Turnpike until you reach Exit/Osceola Parkway. Turn right and proceed down Osceola Parkway and follow the directions to Disney World. Pay close attention to the signs. You want to take the exit stating West 192. When taking this exit, the road will merge directly on to West 192. Continue and proceed to Formosa Gardens Blvd., turn left. (Formosa Gardens Blvd. is located between mile markers 5 and 4 on the 192 and has a Taco Bell on the corner). Continue until you reach a four-way stop. Turn right at the four-way stop and proceed for approx. 1 mile. The main entrance to Emerald Island will be on your left. Proceed straight to the guard house and show the guard your paperwork, you will receive a car pass for your vehicle for the duration of your stay.
